Austenitic stainless steel which has high creep strength and is resistant to stress corrosion cracking comprises:- As present up to 0À01% C up to 0À12% Cr 15-20% Mn 0‹1-5% Mo present up to 0À04% Ni 7-16% N up to 0À2% P present up to 0À1% and Si 0À1-2À5% the balance, apart from impurities such as 0‹005-0À006% S and 0À01-0À04% Cu, being Fe.
