Abstract
1,196,542. Acrylic acid. MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 31 Jan., 1968 [31 Jan., 1967], No. 5061/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Acrylic acid is made by reacting propylene vapour with a gas containing molecular oxygen at 250-550‹ C. in the presence of a catalyst which comprises Mo, Su, P and Te such that Mo : Sn : P : Te = 12 : 0.2-12 : 0À4-25 : 0.2 -1À1, and oxygen, the atomic ratio of phosphorus to tin being within the range defined by the expression 10>P/Sn>2. Acrolein and acetic acid are mentioned as by-products. Additionally the reactant gaseous mixture may contain steam.
