Abstract
The procedure for the conversion of an olefin, such as propylene, isobutylene, and mixtures thereof, into acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile, respectively, characterized by reacting in the vapor phase at a temperature of approximately 260º to 593ºC, and pressure of approximately 0.5 to 5 atmospheres, the olefin with a gas containing molecular oxygen and ammonia in the presence of a catalyst of the empirical formula: Aa Bb Cc Fed Bie Mof Ox where A is at least an alkali metal, a rare earth metal, tantalum and niobium, B is at least cobalt and nickel and C is at least phosphorous and arsenic, where a and c are numbers from 0 to 3, b is a number from 0.1 to 20, d is a number from 0.1 to 8, e is a number from 0.1 to 6, f is a number from 8 to 16, and x is a number that is determined by the valence requirements of the other elements. present.
