Abstract
1,196,470. Smoke and illuminating shells. FORSVARETS FABRIKSVERK. 19 Dec., 1967 [23 Jan., 1967], No. 57607/67. Heading F3A. A shell comprises front and rear casing parts 4 and 15, Fig. 1, held together by breakable means 5, a parachute 14 attached to a plate 9, a smoke or illuminating device 3 having means 11 for limiting its displacement relative to the plate 9, and a separation charge 7 which, upon ignition, imparts opposite velocities to the front and rear casing parts and causes the device 3 to exert a pulling force on the plate 9 to withdraw the parachute. A split ring 8 or a flange on the means 11 spaces apart the device 3 and plate 9. The means 11 can be constituted by chains or wires. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, a threaded sleeve 18 connects the smoke device to the rear casing part. A threaded ring 19 spaces the smoke device and a plate 20 apart. Upon ignition of a charge 21, the plate is driven rearwardly to an extent limited by a flange 24 and in so doing breaks a thread 26 and a thread of the flange 24 to release the rear casing part.
