In a loose-leaf binder in which one or both ends of filing posts 1, Fig. 3, are secured by a locking bar 2, the binder covers 8 are attached to a spine member 16 by hinge members, the parts 9, 15 of at least one of which are shaped to form a compartment or recess accommodating a locking bar 2 when the covers are in closed position. The posts 1 are made of a flexible and somewhat extensible tubular plastic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, with a plug of rigid material at each end. They are passed through holes 18, Fig. 4, in flanges 17 integral with the hinge part 15 and also through holes 3 in the locking bars 2, and are secured to the bars 2 by being bent back over into recesses 6, Fig. 2, in the bars and engaged with ribs 7 projecting into the recesses. The hinge parts 9, 15 are formed of polypropylene and are joined at a thinned line 11. Integral strips at the end of each hinge may be provided to close the ends of the compartment receiving the locking bar. The hinge parts 15 are extended to pass over the inner surface of the spine 16, the inner edges of the extensions being shaped as shown at 12 so that they interfit, and the extensions being slidably connected to the spine 16 by rivets 14 and slots 13 so that the binder can be adjusted for different quantities of sheets 50.
