Abstract

A loose-leaf binder with complementary arch or ring parts for engaging holes in sheets and pivoted away from one another for releasing the sheets, has a cover and back formed, e.g. by extrusion moulding, as a single sheet of synthetic resin with bending lines, and integral strips upon which the arch parts are mounted. The whole binder may be formed in one moulding operation. In one form, Figs. 1, 2, a sheet of polypropylene is formed with bending lines 15a, 15b, 17a, 17b so as to provide covers 24a, 24b, a back 14 and intermediate strips 16a, 16b, the arch parts 20a, 20b being mounted on the strips. The arch parts may be integral with the strips 16a, 16b or the strips may have grooves or holes 125a . . . 126b, Fig. 3, to receive suitably-shaped ends on the separately made arch parts 120a . . . 122b. In another construction, Fig. 7, the binder back 14a, 14b is provided with a bending line 11a, and strips 16a, 16b to which the rings 20a . . . 22b are attached are formed integral with the back parts. According to another construction, Fig. 9, a rigid back 54 is provided and the ring parts 20a . . . 22b are mounted on the two portions 56a, 56b of a curved strip 56 attached at its sides to the back but separated therefrom at its ends 58a, 58b. The strip 56 snaps from the position shown in Fig. 9 to the closed position. The binder may be formed like an attache case, Fig. 4, by providing integral flanges 225a, 225b on the covers 224a, 224b. Handles 230a, 230b are moulded in one piece with the case and grooves 235 may be provided to receive the handles so that there is no obstruction when the binder is put away. Locking devices.-To secure the binder, Figs. 1, 2, in closed position a member 12 integral with and hinged at 18 to the back has hooked ends 18a, 18b which engage the ends of the strips 16a, 16b. Alternatively, a transverse strip on the back has latching members to engage holes (340a, Fig. 5, not shown) in the strips. In Fig. 7, members 19a, 19b on the strips 16a, 16b interlock. As already described, locking buttons 232 are provided on the handle 230a, Fig. 4.
