1,195,720. Ethylene oxide. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 5 Oct., 1967 [6 Oct., 1966], No. 45449/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C1] Ethylene oxide is made by reacting ethylene or a gas containing ethylene with oxygen or a gas containing oxygen at a raised temperature in the presence of a silver silicate catalyst. The catalyst may be supported and may contain known activators. The gas mixture may contain a minor proportion of a halogen compound, e.g. ethylene dichloride, to repress the formation of carbon dioxide. The process may be effected at 150-400‹ C. under atmospheric, reduced or raised pressure. Examples are given.
