An external vehicle rear-view mirror comprises a mirror support arm 7 tiltable against the action of a helical compression spring 8 (as described in Specification 1,195,574) contained in a base assembly with its axis substantially parallel to the vehicle surface 1, wherein the base 2 of the base assembly has an oblique aperture 2a engaged during mounting over the oblique end of a tongue 6 previously secured via a plastics sole-plate 3 to the vehicle surface 1 by a screw 5, a further screw 4 keeping tongue and aperture engaged, and a cover 11 being slid on to the assembly by engaging its inturned edges 11a in grooves in the base 2.
