Abstract

1,195,446. Anti-fouling paints. MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG. CO. Ltd., and HOKKO CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 15 May, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 23045/68. Heading C4A. [Also in Divisions B1 and B2] Anti-fouling paints comprise an organo- mercury compound R-Hg-X, wherein R is phenyl, tolyl, or C 2 -C 6 alkyl, and X is I, Br or toluene sulphonanilino. Specified compounds are phenyl mercuric bromide, iodide, and ptoluenesulphonanilide, ethyl and butyl mercuric p-toluenesulphonanilide, butyl mercuric iodide, and hexyl mercuric bromide. Cuprous oxide, mercuric oxide, D.D.T., B.H.C., aldrin or tri-alkyl tin compounds may also be present. In examples, the paint vehicle comprises rosin plus (Examples 1-4) vinyl resin, (5, 6) boiled linseed oil, (7) boiled linseed oil and rubber chloride, (8) acrylic resin, and (9) alkyd resin.
