Abstract

1456053 Antifouling paints KOA SOAP CO Ltd 6 Sept 1974 [12 Sept 1973] 39063/74 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and C4] An antifoaming paint composition contains an amidine compound represented by the general formula wherein R is an alkyl or alkenyl group having 11 to 17 carbon atoms, or an acid addition salt thereof. Suitable amidine compounds or salts thereof are lauramidine, myristamidine, palmitamidine, stearamidine, oleamidine and coconut-alkanoamidine and salts thereof. Suitable acids for forming the salts are hydrogen chloride, sulphuric acid, thiosulphuric acid, sulphurous acid, p-toluenesulphonic acid, oxalic acid and citric acid. In the examples the compounds are incorporated into paints comprising titanium white, rosin gum, vinyl resin, methyl-isobutylketone, xylene, aluminium stearate, red iron oxide, copper suboxide, boiled linseed oil, solvent naphtha, chlorinated rubber, rosin and toluene. The vinyl resin is a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate and the chlorinated rubber is a chlorinated isoprene.
