Abstract

1,195,183. Folding sheets. KALLE A.G. 31 Jan., 1969 [2 Feb., 1968], No. 5342/69. Heading B8R. Paper sheets are formed, prior to folding, with both transverse and longitudinal grooves, by passing between rollers 4, 5, Figs. 1 and 2. Each roller has a grooving bar 8, 9 respectively mating with a grooving recess 17, 16 in the other roller, to form the lateral grooves to be alternately oppositely directed. The roller 4 also has three semi-circumferential bars 10, 11, 12 mating with recesses 23, 24, 22 on the roller 5, and three similar recesses 20, 21, 19 mating with bars 13, 14, 15 on the roller 5, to produce alternately oppositely directed longitudinal grooves. The sheet 25 is advanced by flanges 29, 30 at one end of the rollers, which are rotated by a handle 6 and gear-wheels 7. The distances of the ends of the circumferential bars from the corresponding recesses increases from the drive end of the rollers, as shown at 31, 32, 33, to avoid simultaneous priming of the paper and tearing. The sheets are delivered into a chamber 36, where impingement against the wall 39 produces transverse zigzag folding. Longitudinal zigzag folding is done manually after removal from the chamber, along the longitudinal grooves.
