[Also in Division B4] Apparatus for the manufacture of box blanks comprises a pair of rolls, one roll 10, Fig. 1, carrying cutting, creasing or scoring rules, each rule being mounted on a detachable carrier strip 11 extending along the roll, and means enabling the circumferential position of the rule to be adjusted, and for clamping the rule in position. As described, each end of the roll includes a Tee slot 12 and a helically toothed portion 13. The carrier includes a probe 14 complementary to the inter-tooth spaces, to permit adjustment and alignment of the carrier therein. The carrier is sealed to the roll face by an 0-ring 15, Fig. 4 (not shown), and is connected to an exhausting pump. A cutting rule 18 is clamped by a piece 19 and bolts 20, Fig. 3 (not shown), along one lateral edge to permit adjustment of carrier length and cutting edge height. The carrier may alternatively be maintained in position by magnetic elements, and may also be clamped as by the use of end caps. The cutting height may be adjusted by the use of wedges. Further the carrier may be clamped in position against reference marks instead of using helical teeth. A supplementary carrier strip may be provided, extending about the roll circumference from one carrier or between two carriers. Each carrier may be connected by a flexible pipe to the low-pressure source; or the roll may be ducted internally with unused ports blocked by flush plugs.
