Abstract

1,194,656. Rotary - piston internal combustion engines. DAIMLER - BENZ A.G. Oct. 9, 1968 [Oct. 14, 1967], No.47854/68. Heading F1F. In a rotary-piston I.C. engine, particularly but not exclusively of the kind having a three-sided piston which slides on a bi-arcuate epitrochoidal surface of the casing wall, includes in the admission passage 4 through which air or air-fuel mixture is admitted, a turbulence ring 8 disposed transversely of the passage closely upstream of the admission port 7 having projections on its inner peripheral surface to produce turbulent movements 6 with resulting increased heat transfer, increased velocity of the flame front in the combustion chamber and favourable effects on fuel mixture quality and fuel economy. The ring 8 instead of being built-in may be in the form of a circlip lodged in a groove in the admission passage. The inner periphery of the circlip may be eccentric with respect to its outer periphery so that it may be disposed in any desired position to guide the turbulence in the same or opposite direction to piston rotation.
