Abstract
1454406 Heating charge HONDA GIKEN KOGYO KK 3 Dec 1973 [4 Dec 1972] 55830/73 Heading F1B In an I.C. engine wherein each cylinder has a main combustion chamber 4 and an auxiliary combustion chamber 7 communicating via a frame passage 5, there is provided a thin wall intake pipe 14 for delivering air-fuel mixture to the auxiliary combustion chamber 7 and a thin wall exhaust pipe 17 loading exhaust gases from the main combustion chamber 4, the pipes 14, 17 being arranged alongside one another inside a thick wall housing 20 so that heat is transferred from the exhaust gases to the auxiliary fuel mixture. The housing is formed in two ports 20a, 20b and also encloses an auxiliary chamber 13 at one end of the intake pipe 14, and a common exhaust exit pipe 19. It may be made of cast iron or cast steel. The fuel supply to the main combustion chamber 4 for the carburetter 8 is heated in a chamber by exhaust gases from the exhaust chamber 18 passing through an opening in the housing 20.
