Abstract
1,194,484. Heating or cooling in fluidized beds. SOC. GENERALE D'APPLICATIONS ELECTRO-THERMIQUES. 11 March, 1968 [13 March. 1967], No. 11736/68. Heading F4W. A fluid to be heated or cooled is circulated through tubing immersed in a plurality of heated or cooled fluidized beds maintained in separate compartments and the compartments are maintained at different temperatures. As shown, an enclosure 17 is divided by a partition 25 into two compartments 17a, 17b each of which contains material fluidized by a gas passing through a base-plate 18. A fluid to be heated passes from an inlet header 23 to an outlet header 24 via a tube bundle 21 part of which is disposed in compartment 17a and the remainder in compartment 17b. The combustion gases from a burner 26 are directed into compartment 17a and leave via a cyclone tube 28, in which the solids are separated, and a duet 27 for introduction into compartment 17b. The gases leave the latter via a further cyclone tube and outlet 29; the fluidizing gas exits through an outlet 30 and may be recycled. The beds may alternatively be heated by burners provided beneath the baseplate of the bed, by electric heaters or by steam and may be cooled by replacing burner 26 by an injector for low-temperature gas.
