Abstract

1,194,014. Insulation board. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [9 Oct., 1967], No. 46070/67. Addition to 1,095,901. Heading B5N. An insulation board comprises a sheet of a foamed thermoplastic resin, a sheet of plasterboard and a sheet of aluminium foil. The foil is preferably situated next to the resin layer on the side which is warmer when the insulation board is in use and thus for the insulation of a warm room the foil is preferably the middle layer but for the insulation of a cold store the resin sheet suitably forms the middle layer. Polystyrene and polyethylene are the preferred resins but other resins are specified. The resin layer may be between 0À1-1À0 inch thick. The plasterboard preferably conforms to British Standard No. 1230; 1945, and is suitably 0À1-2À0 inches in thickness. The foil, preferably 0À0002-0À0015 inch thick, may be mounted on a bitumen treated kraft paper. The layers may be stuck together with an adhesive, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, which is preferably applied in the form of longitudinal bands. In the example the layers are glued together at 70‹ C. and under 10 lb./sq. inch pressure.
