Abstract

1,193,974. Magnetic structures. INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966], No. 58187/66. Heading H1H. [Also in Division C7] To make a permanent magnet Fe, Ni, Co or an alloy of two or more of these is deposited from a vapour in an inert atmosphere such as A on a non-magnetic substrate under the influence of a magnetic field. Cu, Ag, polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride may be used as substrates, and non-magnetic material such as Cu or Ag may be vapour-deposited over the magnetic layer, then serve as substrates in further deposition of magnetic material. Polyester tape 4 may be wound continuously under the gap in fixed mask 14 and coils 15, 16 focus the metal particles deposited on tape 6 and cause them to become oriented in the direction of the magnetic field produced by them. The tape 4 may be heated to bind the magnetic material in position, or may be sprayed with an organic material.
