Abstract
1,193,391. Producing steel. CENTRO SPERIMENTALE METALLURGICO S.p.A. March 6, 1968 [March 20, 1967], No. 10853/68. Heading C7D. Steel with less than 0À015% each of S and P is produced from cast iron in an oxygen blown converter to which is fed a synthetic slag-forming material comprising a partially or totally sintered mixture containing lime or limestone and an iron oxidecontaining material. The mixture may consist of 95-50% CaO (as limestone powder) and 5-50% FeO (as powdered iron ore), with or without 10-20% fine coke, and may be sintered at over 1000‹ C. on a Dwight-Lloyd machine. Prior to sintering, the mixture may be pelletized in a humid atmosphere until at least 7% Ca(OH) 2 is present, and the pellets treated with air or CO 2 .
