Abstract
1,192,656. Magnetic holding devices. JAMES COOKE & SON (CHEMICAL PROCESSES) Ltd. 25 Feb., 1969 [5 March, 1968], No. 10611/68. Heading H1P. [Also in Division C7] A holding device comprises a magnet mounted in a housing of electrically conductive non- magnetic material provided on its exterior with at least one spike of magnetic material forming a polepiece for the magnet within the housing. As shown a magnet 16 is enclosed in a tubular housing 10 of copper or brass closed at its lower end by a disc 11 of copper or other non-magnetic electrically conductive material provided with a spike 17 of magnetic material. The tube 10 is supported from a track 13 by means of rollers 12 and is provided with a wire 14 which engages an endless chain 15. A plurality of tubes may be mounted on the track and be moved along by the chain. The spike may engage the eye of a surgical needle 18 during an electropolishing or electroplating step, the track 13 being connected to the power supply so that current is conducted to the needle via the tube 10 and spike 13. More than one spike may be provided on each housing and the device may also be used to support fishing hooks or skewers.
