Abstract

A needle threader composed of a cartridgelike member having an extending hook portion for insertion into the eye of a needle, the hook portion receiving the thread which will then be pulled through the eye of the needle. An extending portion from the cartridgelike member allows the needle to be steadied during the threading operation.

Mike ls/ek Kasper NEEDLE THREADING DEVICE This invention relates to devices for threading needles, and more particularly to a cartridge-type needle threading device,
lt is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a needle threading device which will be easy to use, by having a cartridge portion containing a fixed wire hook, the hook being received within the eye of a needle which is held at right angles to the device, the hook then receiving a length of thread which will then be carried through the eyeiof the needle.
A further object of this invention is to provide a needle threading device which will have an extending portion above the cartridgelike base portion which will aid in st eading the needle for quick and easy threading.
Other objects of the present inventionare to provide a needle threading device which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a vertical view of the present invention shown in elevation and partly broken away with the needle shown in phantom lines; and
FIG. 2 is an enlarged view taken along the lines 2-2 of FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a needle threading device consists of a base tube ll having an in wall l2. A music wire hook 13 extends upwards along side of a tube 14 which is carried within base tube 11. Spring wire hook 13 is frictionally secured between the inner periphery 15 of tube 1l and the outer periphery 16 of tube 14. l
' Hook 13 is of such construction so as to be received within the eye 17 of needle 18 in order to carry thread 19 through the eye 17 of needle 18.
When not in use, a tube provides cover means and protection means for hook 13 by receiving the upper portion of base tube 11.
ln use, hook 13 is placed within eye 17 of needle 18 and thread 19 is advanced to the extending portion of hook 13. When needle 18 is then lifted away from base tube l1 and the plug tube 14, thread 19 is carried through eye 17 of needle 18.
lclaim: v
l. A device for inserting a thread through the eye of a needle comprising:
a base member;
a resilient member supported at one end by said base member being free adjacent the opposite end for insertion through the eye in the needle;
said resilient member including a loop portion adjacent the free end thereof for receiving a thread therein and carrying the thread through the eye in the needle;
said base member including an alignment element extending alongside said resilient member and beyond said loop portion for sliding engagement with the needle and to steady the needle when in contact therewith; and
said free end of said resilient member being moveable toward and away from said alignment element to align said loop portion with the eye ofthe needle when the needle is in contact with the alignment element to enable the loop portion to be inserted through the eye in the needle as the needle is moved in sliding relation along the alignment element.
2. A device in accordance with claim l, wherein:
said base member comprises a tube; and
said alignment 'element comprises another tube carried within said first mentioned'tube and extending upwardly with respect thereto.
3. A device in accordance with claim 2, wherein:
said resilient member comprises a wire frictionally secured at one end between said first mentioned tube and said other tube to maintain the secured end in relatively fixed relation with respect to said first mentioned tube; and
said wire extends upwardly from said first mentioned tube alongsidesaid other tube. 4. A device in accordance with claim l, including a removable cap member adapted to receive said alignment element and said resilient member to provide protection therefor.
5. A device for inserting a thread through the eye of a needle comprising:
a tubular base member; an elongated wire member having spring characteristics supported at one end by said base member being free adjacent the opposite end for insertion through the eye in the needle; said resilient member including a hook adjacent the free end thereof for receiving a thread therein and for carrying the thread through the eye in the needle; an elongated alignment member carried within and extending upwardly from said base member adapted for sliding engagement with the needle and to steady the needle when in contact therewith; said wire member frictionally'secured between said base member and said alignment member and extending upwardly along the side of said alignment with the free end thereof being movable toward arid away from said alignment member to align said hook with the eye of the needle when the needle is in contact with the alignment member; and said alignment member projecting beyond said hook to enable said hook to be inserted throughthe eye in the needle as the needle is moved in sliding relation along the alignment member.
