Abstract

1,191,486. Knitting-machines. FOUQUETWERK FRAUZ & PLANCK. 7 July, 1967, No. 31310/67. Heading D1C. In a circular knitting machine a yarn feed device comprises a drum 5 on which a reserve of yarn 201 is held between the bobbin (not shown) and the knitting machine, the amount of yarn thus held being replenished by rotation of the drum when the reserve falls below a certain value. As shown in fig. 1 a bulb 65 is provided inside a transparent drum 5 and a photo-cell 39 detects the light from it. When the yarn is used from the drum light passes to the photo cell and a magnet 30 moves the drum into contact with a moving belt 6. When the light is covered the magnet is de-energised and the drum returns under the action of a spring 8 against a brake shoe 9. A yarn stop motion 79 is provided. Yarn is fed in an over end manner from the bottom of the drum through a plush lined thread brake 12. In a modification (not shown) the photo-cell works by light reflected. from the yarn on the drum. In a further modification the control of the drum is pneumatic with a system of deflectable air jets and pneumatic amplifiers and the drum is moved axially to engage the drive. In a further modification the thread brake on the exit side of the drum is provided by an eddy current brake.
