Abstract

[Also in Division H1] An A.C. and D.C. electric motor, e.g. built into a dry shaver, comprises two pivotally mounted circuit-breaker contact carrying arms 10, 10<1> of which one 10<1> coacts with a cam surface on one end 6<1> of an armature shaft 6 to open and close the contacts 11, 11<1> during armature rotation whilst the other, 10, cooperates with a cam 16 angularly movable by a finger disc 19 to adjust the opening distance between the contacts and hence the motor speed, and a second cam member operated by the finger disc coacts with a driver member fixed to the shaft to move the latter when stopped to a starting position in which the contacts are closed. As shown, by moving the disc 19 from the starting/maximum speed mark S to marks I and II, a square bolt 18 secured to it pivots via a cam groove 17 and a preset adjusting screw 13 the arm 10 progressively away from arm 10<1> to decrease the speed. Further clockwise movement beyond the mark O provides that should the motor have stopped in such a position that shaft end 6<1> holds the contacts open, Fig. 5, the second cam member formed by an elastic rubber projection 30 moves teeth 8<1> on a gapped pinion 8 on the shaft 6 to a position in which the contacts are closed. In modifications, the projection 30 may be toothed, and the shaft end 6<1> has two, or more than three, corners in which event the armature 5 has a corresponding number of polepieces.
