Abstract

1,191,221. Printing-apparatus. ROLAND OFFSETMASCHINENFABRIK FABER & SCHLEICHER A.G. 6 March, 1968 [16 March, 1967], No. 11003/68. Heading B6C. A rotary drum adapted to deliver freshly printed sheets without set-off comprises a peripheral wall 46 made at least in part of air permeable material and a plurality of chambers 42, 43 to which air is supplied under pressure through feed ducts 22, 23, the air passing through the wall 46 forming an air cushion adapted to maintain the freshly printed sheets out of contact with the wall. The wall 46 may be of fabric, of sintered or porous plastics material, or of porous sheet metal, and may be covered by a porous plastics member 57. Axially extending ribs separate the drum into chambers and slides 44, 45 control the air flow into the chambers. The effective areas for the escape of air may be varied by turning cover rings 28, 29 with respect to housings 14, 15 within the limits of slots (11), Fig. 3 (not shown). A weight 60 balances the weight of the chambers on the drum.
