Abstract
1,190,697. Offshore platforms. GLOBAL MARINE Inc. 13 July, 1968, No. 33535/68. Heading E1H. An offshore platform, comprising a foundation unit 14 which is Wholly submerged, is anchored to the sea-bed and has a set of upwardly facing location points (e.g. rings. 37 with upwardly diverging conical faces), and a buoyant platform) unit 15 which can be floated (possibly with the aid of detachable buoyancy tanks 47) over the foundation, unit and lowered thereonto, the platform unit having corresponding parts (e.g. the conical lower ends 41 of the hollow columns 40) to mate with the location points, there being means to releasalbly secure the units together. The foundation unit 14 is secured to the sea-bed, e.g. by piles 25 secured in drilled holes 27 by non- shrinking cement. The columns 40 may house buoyancy tanks through each of which passes a rod rotatable by a handle at its upper end on the platform 45 and connected at its lower end to an internally threaded tube which engages an upstanding stud in part 17 of the foundation unit to form the releasable securing means. The platform unit may incorporate fenders 76, 77 and may be used as a drilling platform or as a meteorological or an oceanographic research station.
