Abstract

1,190,510. Donning and doffing apparatus. CIT CARRELLI INDUSTRIALI TESSILI, S.p.A. 6 Dec., 1968 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 57979/68. Heading D1D. A donning and doffing device comprises a frame which is moved parallel to a row of spindles and has a plurality of carriages 5 which are moved in a vertical plane parallel to the row of spindles around a path on the frame which has equally inclined ascending and descending portions interconnected at their upper ends by a horizontal portion, each carraige having a pair of pivoted arms, one of which strips the charged bobbins and the other fits empty bobbins onto the spindles. The carriages are maintained upright during their movement over the ascending, horizontal and descending portions, the spindles being doffed as the carriages move over the ascending portion and donned over the descending portion. The pivoted arms. 6, 7 of each carriage are spaced apart a distance b, and the speed of movement of the frame and of the carriages is such that as the carriage: passes along the horizontal portion a relative horizontal displacement b takes place between each carriage and thespindle with which it is aligned during the ascending and descending portions. A single motor drives both the frame and the carriages. The arms 6, 7 have grippers 34, 29 resiliently connected at their free ends, grippers 29 including a spike for piercing a charged bobbin and grippers 34 have an internal friction lining. The arms are quided in their rocking movement by cams 48, 49 arranged around the path, each arm being resiliently biassed towards the spindles but retained in an operative position by a latch device which is released by latch engaging elements cooperating with the cams. Rollers 14, 15, 16, 17 engage a guideway 18 to guide the carriages around the, path. Empty bobbins are fed singly from a supply hopper 57 'to a cradle support T from where -they are removed by grippers 34. An inclined ramp 47 of shallower inclination than the descending portion engages charged bobbins, releasing them from the arms so that theyroll down the ramp into contianer 3. A movable cam which in its operative position engages cam follower elements to initiate the sequence of operation is moved between operative and inoperative positions by an electro-magnetic actuator 53.
