Abstract

1,190,410. Colouring polyamides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 31 Oct., 1967 [23 Nov., 1966], No. 47465/67. Heading C3R. Polyamides are coloured by incorporating therein a dyestuff Pc-(COY) n where Pc is a phthalocyanine dyestuff radical free from sulphonic acid groups, Y is OH or NH 2 and n is 1, 2, 3 or 4. Pc may be metal free or contain a metal, e.g. Co, Ni or Cu. When Y is OH the dyestuff may be added as a salt, e.g. an ammonium salt. It may be incorporated with the polyamide-forming components as a dry powder or as a dispersion, e.g. in water which may contain dispersing agents, or it may be dusted on preformed polymer chips prior to meltspinning. Various polyamide-forming aminoacids, lactams, diamines and diacids are mentioned. In examples, the polyamides are nylons 66 or 6 and the dyestuff is copper phthalocyanine di- or tri-carboxylic acid or dicarboxylic acid amide. In all examples, the disodium salt of bis-(2-sulphonaphth-1-yl)- methane is also included.
