Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In a hot air or gas engine the face of the transfer piston is formed with a cavity 12 adapted to surround the projecting end of a member (not shown) fitted into the cylinder wall and the air or gas exit and the air or gas entry region of the transfer piston is arranged as a beat excharger comprising a member 1 having a plurality of openings therein for passage of air or gas and adapted to be cooled by a coolant circulated through a hollow connecting rod 5. The transfer piston body 11 may be of hollow blownglass. The cylinder may be of transparent material. The transfer piston may include a regenerator (not shown).
