Abstract
1,190,162. Beam axle suspensions. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968], No. 19549/68. Heading B7D. In a motor vehicle suspension system, a rigid live rear axle 10 is pivotally connected at 26, 28 to a sprung portion of the vehicle 18 by means of two suspension arms 20, 22, sprung by two coil springs 24, the two arms pivoting about a transverse axis, and one of the arms 22 is bifurcated and connected to the axle by two laterally spaced connections providing rigidity between the arm and the axle. One leg of the bifurcated arm is rigidly attached to a bracket on the axle by two bolts 46, 48 in rubber bushings. The other leg and the other arm are pivotally mounted, also in rubber bushings. Vibration dampers 36, 52 may be interposed between the axle or arms and the sprung portion of the vehicle.
