Abstract
1,190,077. Peptides. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 12 June, 1967 [11 June, 1966], No. 26991/67. Heading C2C. Peptides, optionally blocked by one or more conventional amino and/or carboxylic acid protecting groups, are prepared by condensing a first amino acid or peptide which has an N-acyl substituent and also has a free or activated carboxyl group, with a second amino acid or peptide the second amino acid or peptide having an amino group which may be substituted by a 2,4-dimethoxybenzyl group, that is capable of reacting with the free or activated carboxyl group of the first amino acid or peptide and at least one -CONH- and/or -CONH 2 group of the first or second amino acid and/or peptide employed being completely or partially substituted by one or more 2,4-dimethoxybenzyl groups, and, if desired, subsequently splitting off one or more 2,4-dimethoxybenzyl groups and/or one or more conventional amino and/or carboxylic acid protecting groups. The 2,4- dimethoxybenzyl groups are split off by treatment with strong inorganic or organic acids or in the case of use as -CONH- substituent, by treatment with Na in liquid NH 3 .
