Abstract

1,189,308. Floor unit. TURNER & NEWALL Ltd. 15 Sept., 1967 [20 Oct., 1966], No. 47059/66. Heading E1W. A floor unit comprises a grid of intersecting beams 4, 5, which may be of wood, secured to the underside of a horizontal sheet 7, Which may be of plywood, the periphery of which projects beyond the beams to define a supporting flange for the unit. A second lower rigid sheet which may be made of low density, high fibre content asbestos board may be fixed to the under surfaces of the beams 4, 5. The sheets may be fixed to the beams by a synthetic resin glue and/or mechanical fixings such as screws, nails or staples. The unit is described for use with a building having a steel frame which provides the horizontal supporting surfaces upon which the flange of the unit rests, secured if necessary by self tapping screws or shot fired nails, the beams of the unit being unsupported except by their connection to the underside of the sheet 7.
