561,879. Doors; tables. HOLTTUM, G. W. Dec. 3, 1942, Nos. 17209/42 and 10966/43. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XIV] In a door, cupboard, table or other article of furniture made out of flat slabs or panels, the latter comprise two or more sheets of plaster board secured together by adhesive, the exposed edges being surrounded by a relatively light metal or wood frame. A door, Figs. 1, 2 and 4, comprises four sheets A of plaster board glued together under pressure, with facing sheets B of asbestos or sheet steel when a fire-resisting structure is desired. The edges are protected by metal of channel section C, and trough-like triangular corner pieces D are provided for carrying the hinges E which are secured to strips E The lock frame comprises two outer side plates F, and the lock fits into a metal box F <5> recessed into the body. The fire-resisting cover may be replaced by plywood when a decorative finish is desired. When applied to tables, the top Q is made of four plaster board sheets Q<1>, as in Fig. 14, with asbestos or plywood facing sheets Q<2>, the edges being protected by a light wooden frame Q<3>. The table top is supported by an horizontal beam R constituted by plaster board sheets in a wooden frame, its ends fitting into slots in legs R<1> of similar construction connected by a tie rail S also of the composite construction referred to. If the facings are not fire-resisting the surfaces may be coated with a non-inflammable cellulosic or other paint or varnish.
