Abstract

In a yarn winding machine in which the yarn guide reciprocates along the spindle or vice versa, the reversal positions of the reciprocation are controlled by subjecting one reversal position to two superimposed motions, one reciprocatory axially with respect to the spindle and the other a gradual unidirectional axial movement, while the other reversal position is subjected to a gradual unidirectional movement axially with' respect to the spindle and towards the reciprocating reversal position. Preferably the unidirectional movements applied to the two reversal positions are in the same direction and at the same constant speed. The gradual unidirectional movements of both reversal positions may each be effected using a snail cam and cam follower. A heart shaped cam, mounted on the cam follower controlling the unidirectional movement of the upper reversal position, together with a cam follower effects the reciprocatory movement of the upper reversal position. Alternatively knock over cams can be used to define the reversal points.
