Abstract
1,189,265. Flame monitoring apparatus. LANDIS & GYR A.G. July 4, 1968 [July 13, 1967], No.31940/68. Heading G1A. In order to protect the light-sensitive element of a flame monitoring apparatus from the damaging effects of radiant heat or combustion gases, it is mounted, with its associated circuit for control of the fuel supply to the burner, in a housing spaced from the combustion chamber, the light from the flame being directed to the light-sensitive element by means of a light guide. In Fig. 1, the housing 6, mounted on the air supply tube 2, adjacent the fuel supply arrangement 1, contains the light-sensitive element 7 which views a flame in chamber 3 via light conduit 8. The latter may comprise a rigid or flexible solid transparent core of synthetic, e.g. acrylic, fans carried within a multilayered tubular casing having internal bumps, fins &c, to space the core from the internal walls of the casing, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, this spacing is provided by a rough inner wall, as when the tube is formed of a textile, or by a suitably profiled bar. The core may be a bundle of optical fibres. The ends of the core may be flat or lens shaped, or be provided with end caps of inorganic glass. The cross-section may match the shape of the element 7. The light guide may be constructed as described in Specification 1,178,500.
