Abstract

1,128,625. Photo-electric photometers. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 17, 1966 [Jan. 18, 1965], No. 2156/65. Headings G1A and G1P. [Also in Division G2] In a flame photo-meter, particularly for testing an air filter 16, a hollow burner 1 projects into a transparent chimney 2 surrounded by inner and outer casings 3, 4, between which cooling air is supplied via duct 25 and holes 26, the burner 1 being supplied with air metered at 14 and combustible gas, metered at 15, and being provided with means for selectively introducing into the flame a metered quantity of air containing a substance, such as sodium chloride which causes the flame to emit characteristic spectral lines. The emitted light passes through a lens 17 and optical filter 24 to a photo-electric cell 18. As shown, clean air or salt laden air may be passed through filter 16 and supply duct 12, a quick acting valve (not shown) being provided to enable a rapid changeover from one to the other. To prevent heat reaching the cell 18 a heat filter 23 may be provided between lens 17 and a frusto-conical light guide 21.
