Abstract

1,189,052. Deflecting propulsive jets. LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORP. 9 Jan., 1968, No. 1336/68. Heading B7G. [Also in Division F2] An outlet expansion nozzle 14 is flexibly connected to a rocket motor casing 10 by a laminated flexible joint 26 bonded between ball-and-socket surfaces 36, 22 of the nozzle 14 and a ring 16 bolted to the casing 10, the joint additionally providing a spring bias selfcentering effect on the nozzle which is movable by actuators 42, 44 for thrust vector control. The laminated flexible joint 26 comprises alternate layers of rubber, or synthetic rubber, with intermediate layers of reinforced plastic, titanium, aluminium or steel bonded or vulcanized into an integral assembly.
