Abstract

1,188,800. Machine tools. HELLER MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. GEB. 27 June, 1967 [13 July, 1966], No. 29571/67. Heading B3B. A machine tool with automatic tool changing comprises a tool magazine 27, Figs. 1, 3, 4, 5, mounted on the machine spindle slide 26 vertically slidable along the y-axis in columns 22, 23, by a rack-and-pinion drive 25, 31, 32, the columns being mounted on a carriage 21, horizontally movable along the x-axis. The tool spindle 28 is mounted in a quill which is movable along the z-axis by a feed spindle 40. Pinions 31, 32, Fig. 3, are driven by a worm shaft 35, through worm wheels 33, 34, an adjusting device 37, and shafts 29, 30. Device 37 operates through an electronic spirit level so as to provide for varying rotational speeds of shafts 29, 30 and consequent levelling of the slide 26. The load on the racks is relieved by hydraulic cylinders 38. The space above and below magazine 27 is covered by telescopic metal panels 41. A face-plate assembly 110 is mounted in a bore 80 below spindle 28 and comprises a facing tool slide 113, Figs. 4, 5, which is radially adjustable by gear-driven screwed spindles 114, 115, and a further pair of gear-driven spindles 117, 118, co-operate with weights 119, 120, which are displaced along the spindles away from slide 113 so as to balance the latter. An index pin 123 is mounted in a worm-wheel 125 and can be fed forwardly by a piston 124 and rotated by a worm drive 126, so that the screw 128 holding the tool 130 can be unscrewed, and the tool changed.
