Abstract

1,188,669. Rotary pumps. MAGNESITA S. A. Dec.22, 1967 [Dec.26, 1966; Sept. 20, 1967], No. 58342/67. Heading F1F. An electric motor driven rotary pump comprises a rotor having a helically threaded passage, a helically threaded stator having one less thread than the rotor located within the passage, a tubular shaft within which the rotor is rigidly mounted and at least one support member supporting the stator so as to prevent rotation thereof whilst permitting orbital motion thereof. As shown in Fig. 1, a motor casing 7 having end covers 8 rotatably supports in ball bearings 9, a steel tube 3 which carries the motor assembly 4 and is lined with an elastomeric material having a threaded passage to form a pump rotor 2 which co-operates with a stainless steel stator 1 having one less thread. The stator is supported at its ends, by flexible support rods la of steel rope, which may be covered with resilient material, in the end covers 8, to prevent rotation of the stator but at the same permit a degree of orbital movement. The assembly is supported on feet 11 for horizontal operation of the pump and motor rotors. Flanged couplings 12 connect the assembly into a pipe-line. When required to operate in avertical position, the feet Hare located on the outer end of one of the end covers 8 and the ball bearings 9 are replaced by roller bearings which accept both axial and radial loads. Another embodiment shows the pump employed as a submersible pump. The pump and motor parts then being considerably reduced in diameter and increased in length to permit the assembly to be passed into narrow wells or holes.
