Abstract

1,188,078. Bottle carrier. SOMERVILLE INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 Oct., 1968, No. 49692/68. Heading B8C. A hand grip for bottles closed with crown caps has a top panel 10, side panels 12, 14 set in from the respective edges of said top panel and having apertures 26, 30 and 28, 32 for engagement with said caps and a bottom panel having circular apertures 22, 24 for receiving the necks of bottles. The embodiment shown is constructed from a paperboard blank, the panel 20 and part of panel 10 being gluecoated so that when the blank is folded in flat form along a bottom panel fold line and then the top panel 10 folded over, locking strip 18 is held between the glued portion of panel 10 and the glued panel 20. To erect the handle, the flat folded and glued blank is folded along fold lines at the top and bottom of the side panels 12, 14. In use, the erected blank is pressed down over the necks of bottles so that the side wall openings 26-32 snap over the skirt portion of the crown caps, and the dimensions of the apertures and panels are arranged to give a positive locking action under the sides of the caps. Thus, the side walls are bowed out slightly. The top panel 10 may be used to carry information. The handle may alternatively be formed from sheet metal or as a plastics moulding.
