Abstract

1395723 Container carriers J H GAUNTLETT 29 Sept 1972 [1 Oct 1971] 45927/71 Heading B8C A carrier for a plurality of bottles comprises a pair of side walls 4 and 6 joined by upper and lower walls 5 and 7 having aligned bottle neckreceiving apertures 10 and 14, and a longitudinal foldline 15 or 16 in at least one of the side walls to allow that side wall to be inwardlyfolded along that line towards the other side wall to grip the bottles. The carrier is erected from a cardboard blank by securing a flap 9 to the side wall by adhesive, staples, or interlocking tongues and slots 9a and 9c, Fig. 1, each side wall being provided with a foldline 15 and 16 forming upper wall portions 4b and 6b and lower larger wall portions 4a and 6a. The blank may be provided with an additional apertured panel 7a adapted to underlie the lower wall to form a double reinforced bottom wall. In use, when the erected carrier is pushed down over the bottles, the side wall or walls collapse inwardly along the foldlines 15 and 16 to grip the bottles, the upper wall being displaced towards the lower wall. The side walls may be held in the collapsed condition by adhering or stapling the wall portions 4a and 6a to the upper wall or by interlocking tongues and slots. As shown, tongues 12 around the upper wall apertures engage beneath the bottle ribs A or caps C once the latter have penetrated the apertures to hold the collapsed barrier condition. The fold line or lines 15 and 16 are interrupted by outlines 18 defining tongues 19, which engage beneath the bottle caps or beads A and which are held against the bottles on collapse of the carrier by over-riding panel parts defined between cut-lines 18 and 20. In modifications, the side walls are each provided with additional longitudinal fold lines 15a, 16b adjacent the lower wall, Fig. 7 (not shown), or one side wall only is provided with a foldline therein, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), a dual carrier for supporting two rows of bottles is formed by two carriers, each similar to that shown in Fig. 8, joined by a carrier handle 30 integral with the lower walls. In modified dual carrier constructions, Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown), the lower or upper walls of the carriers are common. [GB1395723A]
