Abstract

A clamping device for stereotype plates 1 on a cylinder 3 comprises hooks 5, 6 having tongues 7, 8 which engage in pockets 2 in the underside of the plate 1, the hooks being pivotally and slidably mounted on pins 25 carried in bushes 10, 11 fixed to the cylinder 3. The plate I is formed with stepped-down portions 18, 19 along its longitudinal edges, which fit into recesses 20, 21 in clamping bars 22, 23. The plate 1 is clamped and tensioned by the hooks under the action of cam surfaces on a spindle 17, through links 13, 14 and 15, 16. In operation, rotation of the spindle 17 firstly slides the hooks 5, 6 outwardly on the pins 25 into the pockets 2 and then pivots the hooks about the pins so that the tongues 7, 8 engage the sides of the recesses and tension the plate. A second plate, longitudinally adjacent the plate 1, is clamped by similar hooks operated in a similar manner by a second spindle (27), Fig. 2 (not shown), which is connected to a spindle 29 located coaxially within the spindle 17. The spindles are rotated by worm gears, and are mounted in bearings (33), Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), which are transversely movable by eccentric pins (46) to effect adjustment of the peripheral or skew register of the plates. Adjustment of the axial register of the plates may be provided for (not shown).
