Abstract

1,187,590. Coating apparatus. MERCOL PRODUCTS Ltd. 10 July, 1967 [18 Nov., 1966], No. 51745/66. Heading B2L. In apparatus for coating the interior of pipes, cold setting resin and a liquid curing agent are supplied through respective pipes from a device comprising two positive displacement piston pumps for the respective liquids, the swept volumes of the two pumps being in the same proportions as the proportions in which the liquids are required to be mixed; means for driving the pumps at the same rate including a pneumatic ram, and the arrangement being such that if the driving means fail both pumps stop simultaneously. A double-acting pneumatic ram 14 directly drives two piston pumps 10 and 12, the piston areas of which are in the same proportions as the proportions in which the respective liquids are to be mixed. The pumps are connected to respective supply tanks 16 and 18 disposed one above the other and having capacities substantially in the ratio in which the liquids are required to be mixed. The air pressure to ram 14 can be varied to control the pumping speed. The air pressure may be increased to operate the ram at a speed producing a higher rate of delivery than is required, and limit switches are provided to stop the ram after a single or a double stroke, a timer also being provided to re-start the ram at predetermined intervals of time in accordance with the pumping rate required.
