118,714. Ayling, G. J., and Ayling, G. Oct. 6, 1917. Framework.- Girders, spars, struts, &c. for aerial machines are constructed of laminations of wood with the grain running in different directions, the outer laminations being of the complete length of the girder &c., and the inner laminations of different lengths spliced together with the splices at different positions. Fig. 1 shows a spar or strut of outer laminations A and inner laminations B spliced at C. The spar &c. may be hollow throughout, or may be hollowed at intervals as shown at E in Fig. 4, which shows the top layer A removed.
