Wood tubes.-Internally-strengthened hollow articles of wood, such as tubes, struts, spars, or box-girders, and open-sided articles such as H- section girders, are made up of multi-ply veneer tubes of the necessary cross-section with interposed stiffening members of thicker wood, the parts being glued together. The hollow articles receive a multi-ply veneer covering. Fig. 1 shows a tube or strut of ovate section, and Fig. 3 one of rectangular section. a, a<1>, a<2>, a<3> are multi-ply tubes, b are interposed stiffening members, and c multi-ply coverings. Girders of H section are made as shown in Fig. 6 of veneer tubes a and stiffening members b, d glued together as shown and afterwards out along the lines x-x. The multi-ply veneer tubes and coverings are preferably of the kind described in Specification 121,749.
