Wooden rods etc.; lumber; veneers. - Rods, tubes, blocks, &c., especially applicable for aeroplane and air-ship construction, are made from superposed glued layers of strips of veneer obtained by cutting layers from tree trunks exactly parallel to the annual rings and then peeling away from these layers the soft spring wood. Fig. 6 shows a tube made up of four layers, the innermost layer being wound like a single screw-thread, the next two layers like multiple screw - threads, and the outer layer consisting of strips of veneer running longitudinally.
