Abstract
126,045. Ryan, A., and British Cellulose & Chemical Manufacturing Co. Nov. 14, 1916. Wood pipes and tubes.-A wooden tube is constructed of longitudinal elements so arranged as to have the grain running along the length of the body, said elements being glued together and bound with fabric treated or coated with a contracting varnish preferably one having cellulose acetate as a base. in tho form shown, the tube consists of three sections selected so that there is as little cross graining as possible and having their adjacent edges thickened to increase the strength of the joint. The tube is shown fitted with an internal metal reinforcement f, but this may be dispensed with. The tube may have a stream-line fairing of thin wood secured to it, or it may be of stream-line or other section. The textile covering may be wound on in the form of a tape, or drawn on as a tube or wrapped round and secured by stitching. Long tubes may be made by joining the sections end to end, the joints of the elements being suitably staggered.
