Abstract

1,186,929. Riveted joints; welding by pressure. HAZLEMERE MOTOR CO. (WALTHAM ABBEY) Ltd. 22 Nov., 1968 [11 Dec., 1967], No. 56162/67. Headings B3R and B3U. [Also in Divisions B7 and E1] In a joint between top-hat shaped frame members 1, 2 wherein the flanges 8 and side walls 6 of one member 2 are cut away to receive the other member the web 4 and flange 8 portions of the member 2 overlapping and secured to the web 3 and flanges 7 of the member 1 are joggled so that the flanges 7, 8 of the two members lie in substantially the same plane. The members, e.g. mild steel are secured together by rivets, bolts or spot welds and may be secured to a sheet metal or wooden panel 14. The frame members may cross each other at angles other than right angles and can be used in the construction of vehicle bodies and partitions for buildings.
