Abstract

1,186,275. Analysis. BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK A.G. 30 June, 1967 [2 July, 1966], No. 30309/67. Heading B1X. [Also in Divisions Cl and C3] Metal ion masking agents useful in the analytical separation of iron and aluminium comprise water soluble polycondensates obtained by reacting a substance which is an aliphatic linear polycondensate or polymer containing m basic nitrogen atoms per structural element and 2 to 18 chain members between adjacent basic nitrogen atoms with 0.05 m to 1.8 m moles of a bifunctional or higher polyfunctional alkylating agent, n being 1 to 10. The. substance may be a polyalkylenimine or a mixture of polyalkylenimines having 2-4 carbon atoms, polycondensates of alkylene polyamines of specific chain length with specific aliphatic dicarboxylic acids or their functional derivatives or with specific # hydroxy or amino carboxylic acids or lactams and lactones thereof and poly-addition or - condensation products of alkylene polyamines with acrylic acid and its lower esters. Specifically exemplified are polyethyleneimines, polycondensates of diethylene triamine and adipic acid, dipropylene triamine and adipic acid or caprolactam or glycol acrylate and triethylene tetramine and sebacic acid. Alkylating agents specified are dichlorohydrin, butadiene diepoxide, divinylsulphone, epichlorohydrin and the disodium salt of tris-(#-sulphatoethyl)- sulphonium inner salt.
