Abstract
1,212,276. Preparation of aminoamides and imidazolines. COATES BROS. & CO. Ltd. 6 May, 1969 [29 July, 1968], No. 36032/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B2] Substantially monomeric amino amid is and/ or imidazolines are prepared by reacting saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing no more than 12 C atoms and having a straight chain of at least 5 C atoms and having at least one H atom attached directly to the carbon atom carrying the carboxyl group, or a functional derivative thereof, with a polyalkylene polyamine in a molar ratio of acid to polyamine of 1À2:1 to 2:1. Suitable acids are valeric, caproic, heptanoic, caprylic, pelargonic, capric, undecanoic, lauric and 2-ethylhexanoic. The amine preferably has the general formula H(NHR) n NH 2 , where n is 2-6 and R is an alkylene group C m H 2m where in is 2-6. The process is advantageously performed at 225- 300‹ C. The reaction product is stated to be a mixture of amino monoamides, monoimidazolines, amino bis-amides, bisimidazolines and amino amide imidazolines. Amongst the examples, the reaction products of heptanoic acid (1À9 moles) and tetraethylene pentamine (1 mole), undecanoic acid (1À7 moles) and tripropylene tetramine (1 mole), and 2-ethyl hexoic acid with dipropylene triamine (0À5 mole) and triethylene tetramine (0À5 mole) are prepared.
