Abstract

1,235,805. Amine-amide condensation products. INVENTA FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG A.G. 5 June, 1969 [5 June, 1968], No. 28481/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Compounds of the general formula (where R 1 is a lower alkyl group of from one to four carbon atoms, R 2 is a divalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aralkylene radical which may contain ether, thioether or secondary or tertiary amino linkages and n is from 2-12) may be prepared by reacting at least two molar proportions of an amine NH 2 R 2 .NH 2 with one molar proportion of an N-alkylaminocarboxylic acid R 1 NH.(CH 2 ) n .COOH at 170-250‹ C. in an inert atmosphere, and thereafter distilling off excess amine under reduced pressure. Specified amines include 1,2-bis-(3-aminopropoxy) ethane, 1,3- and 1,4 - bis - (3 - aminopropoxy) butane, 1,6- bis - (3 - aminopropoxy) hexane, 4,4<SP>1</SP> - diaminodibutyl ether, bis-(2-aminoethyl) sulphide, N,N- bis- (3 - aminopropyl) methylamine, triethylene tetramine, 1,6 - hexamethylene diamine, 3,3,5- trimethyl - 5 - aminomethyl - cyclohexylamine, o-, in-, and p-xylylene diamines and 2,2,4-trimethyl hexamethylenediamine, and specified acids include N-methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, isopropyl, and butyl-derivatives of co-aminocaproic, -capric, -caprylic, -undecanoic and -lauric acids. The condensates are curing agents for epoxy resins (see Division C3).
