Abstract
1,185,889. Photo-electric fault inspection. EMHART CORP. July 11, 1967 [July 18, 1966], No.31766/67. Heading G1A. Glass-ware is inspected for defects by two light beams directed at an angle on to an area of the glass within the field of view of an optical fibre bundle, so that only light reflected off a defect is transmitted by the bundle to a photoelectric detector operating a reject mechanism. In Fig. 1 where the rim F of a jar C, rotating about its longitudinal axis, is inspected, two beams of light reflected off mirrors 22 from sources 12 illuminate an area of the rim directly beneath one end of an optical fibre bundle 10. Only light reflected off a defect enters the bundle to reach the detector, such as a photo-diode or photo-cell. A lens may focus reflected light on to the end of the bundle whose field of view may be square.
